Saint Nectaire, France

Saint Nectaire France

The small village of Saint-Nectaire is located in the mountain massif of the Monts Dore and famous for its spicy cheese, and is overlooked by its 12th century church, a very beautiful building with the typical Romanesque architecture of Auvergne. The church was built by the monks of La Chaise-Dieu Abbey in honour of Saint Nectaire. Inside this church, classified as a historical monument, you can admire 103 fantastic figural capitals and a treasure consisting in particular of the bust of Saint Baudime in gilded copper and the Madonna of Mount Cornadore. Simply enchanting! Below the church, Saint-Nectaire-le-Bas stretches out with its thermal station, which has more than forty springs, and the House of Saint Nectaire, dedicated to the famous creamy cheese with a subtle nutty flavour.
