Hadera Israel

Hadera (Hebrew: חדרה) is a city in the Haifa District of Israel. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics of Israel (CBS), at the end of 2004 the city had a population of 75,300 inhabitants. The origin of the name comes from the Arabic word khadra, which means "green", since Hadera is surrounded by fertile agricultural regions. Hadera has beaches of more than seven km. Hadera was founded in 1890 between the cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa by some 40 families of Russian and Eastern European immigrants, members of the Zionist Hovevei Zion group. Many of the first emigrants were fatally affected by yellow fever and malaria. Hadera is today a region with crops of orange, lemons, cotton, avocado and bananas, among other products.
