Lovech is a picturesque town of about 35,000 inhabitants located on both banks of the Osam River in central Bulgaria. Its origin is a settlement of the Thracian tribes, ancestors of the present Bulgarians from 2,000 years BC. The name of Lovech comes from an old Bulgarian word meaning "river city". For those planning to travel to Bulgaria is a destination to consider, not only by the city itself but also by the natural attractions of the region where it is and which I will describe below: 1. Covered bridge of Lovech. No, he is not in Italy, nor in France, nor in Germany, he is in the hidden Europe: Bulgaria. It is a peculiar bridge, unique in Europe, has a structure of oak and beech, the deck is made of iron and the pillars are made of stone. It connects the old part of Lovech (Varosha neighborhood) with the modern part and is the symbol of the city. It was built in 1876 by the master of the Renaissance Kolyu Fitcheto, in 1925 suffered a fire that destroyed it but was rebuilt in 1931. It has a length of 106 meters and a width of 10 meters. Its peculiarity lies in being covered and since its origin the bridge was designed not only to communicate both banks of the river but also was given a commercial use by installing small stalls and shops of local craftsmen inside (up to 40 different) , So that of the 10 meters of width, 5 were dedicated to the traffic and the other 5 to the stores. The historical importance of the bridge is that Lovech is the shortest road between Danube, the Balkans and the Aegean Sea. It is a nerve center of a network of roads, some of which date back to the time of Roman domination.
