Grande Comore is an island in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa. It is the largest island in the Comoros nation. Most of its population is of the Comorian ethnic group. The island's capital is Moroni, which is also the national capital. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • Karthala volcano. One of the largest and most dangerous volcanoes in the world because of the possibility that water inside the volcano could be heated and explode resulting in the volcano exploding. • Iconi. One of the oldest settlements on Grand Comore. • Mbachile. • Itsandra. White sand beach and medina neighborhood. • Coelocanth Marine Park. The second marine park in the Comoros located on the southern coast adjacent to coelocanth habitat. • East Coast. Difficult access with beautiful coastline close to Karthala volcano. • Volo Volo market. • Nassib Bakery. • Badjanani Mosque. One of the oldest mosques in the Comoros and is religiously important to Comorians for its age and largeness.
