Cape Verde is Atlantic, Africa and Creole rhythm across ten different islands.
For many travellers, Cape Verde begins on Sal and Boa Vista, between long beaches, dunes and the Atlantic. On Sal, Santa Maria brings colour, restaurants, music and water sports, while the salt crater at Pedra de Lume recalls the island’s volcanic origins. Boa Vista feels wider and wilder, with the dunes of Deserto de Viana, small villages and kilometres of coastline where the landscape can seem almost untouched. And between March and May, the waters around Boa Vista become one of the few places in the North Atlantic where humpback whales come to calve, while dolphins can be seen almost year-round.

But the real surprise comes when you continue to the other islands. Santiago, the largest, connects Praia with the history of Cidade Velha, the first permanent European settlement in the tropics and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. São Vicente brings the cultural atmosphere of Mindelo and the music that gave the archipelago its distinctive Creole soul, while a crossing to Santo Antão changes the scenery once again: green valleys, volcanic ridges, mountain villages and some of the most spectacular hiking trails in the Atlantic.
You come for beaches and ocean, kitesurfing and windsurfing, volcanic landscapes, hiking, music, food and Creole culture. But Cape Verde becomes far more interesting when you combine its islands: Sal or Boa Vista for the ocean, São Vicente for rhythm and culture, Santo Antão for mountains and Santiago for history — a journey where every crossing reveals another Cape Verde.
