DESTINATIONS · Costa Rica

Here, nature isn’t the backdrop. It is the journey.

Costa Rica often begins around San José, but the real change of scenery comes quickly. To the north, Arenal Volcano rises above the tropical forests surrounding La Fortuna, among hot springs, waterfalls and jungle trails. Higher up, Monteverde changes the atmosphere again — cloud forest, hanging bridges, dense vegetation and some of the most remarkable biodiversity in Central America.

Here, nature isn’t the backdrop. It is the journey.

Then you choose an ocean — or, better still, discover both. On the Pacific coast, Manuel Antonio combines jungle, beaches and wildlife, Guanacaste brings bays, long beaches and sunsets, while the Nicoya Peninsula moves at a more relaxed rhythm, between nature, surfing and wellness. Further south, Corcovado and the Osa Peninsula preserve one of the country’s wildest landscapes, while on the Caribbean side, Tortuguero and Puerto Viejo reveal a completely different Costa Rica.

You come for volcanoes, rainforest and wildlife, beaches, surfing and snorkelling, rafting, canopy adventures, hot springs or wellness. But Costa Rica is best experienced on the move: Arenal and Monteverde, rainforest and Pacific, adventure and slow days by the ocean — several natural worlds connected in a single journey.

“In Costa Rica, I wouldn’t choose one place and stay there. The distances let you wake up beside a volcano, cross the rainforest and finish your journey barefoot on the Pacific shore.”

Arenal and hot springs? Monteverde and wildlife? Manuel Antonio or a few days on the beaches of Guanacaste? Tell me how much adventure and how much tranquillity you want, and I’ll help you connect them into a journey where nature takes centre stage.
