DESTINATIONS · Indonesia

Bali is only the beginning.

For many travellers, Indonesia begins in Bali — and for good reason. Ubud brings together temples, rice terraces, art and wellness, while the south of the island opens onto the beaches of Seminyak, Jimbaran and Nusa Dua, and Uluwatu places temples and dramatic cliffs high above the Indian Ocean. Inland, Sidemen, Munduk and Jatiluwih reveal a greener, quieter Bali, between villages, mountains, waterfalls and rice fields.

Bali is only the beginning.

But Indonesia has thousands of islands, and Bali can become the gateway to a much bigger journey. Java means the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan, the volcanoes Bromo and Ijen and the energy of Yogyakarta. Further east, Lombok and the Gili Islands change the rhythm, while Flores and Komodo bring almost unreal landscapes, wild islands and the world of the Komodo dragons. Beyond them lie Sumatra, Sulawesi and Raja Ampat — different cultures, different ecosystems, another Indonesia entirely.

You come for Bali, beaches and surfing, temples and spirituality, volcanoes and rainforest, diving and snorkelling, food, wellness or adventure. But Indonesia becomes unforgettable when you combine different worlds: Ubud and the ocean, Bali and Java, temples and volcanoes, islands and reefs, days of exploration and days with no plans at all — in a journey that can be as peaceful or as adventurous as you want it to be.

“When you say Indonesia, Bali is the first place that comes to mind. But I wouldn’t automatically let the journey end there. Sometimes, a few extra days in Java, Lombok or Komodo are exactly what turns a beautiful holiday into a journey you’ll remember.”

Ubud and the beach in Bali? Bali and the Gili Islands? Java’s temples followed by a few days by the ocean? Or Bali, Flores and Komodo in a longer journey? Tell me what draws you in and how much you want to explore, and I’ll help you find the right combination and rhythm.
