Seychelles usually begins on Mahé, the largest island in the archipelago, where Victoria, mountains covered in tropical vegetation and beaches such as Beau Vallon are surprisingly close to one another. But that almost unreal image of giant granite boulders, white sand and turquoise water inevitably leads you to Praslin and Anse Lazio, then into the ancient forest of Vallée de Mai.

On La Digue, the rhythm changes again. Bicycles almost replace cars, while Anse Source d’Argent turns sculpted granite into one of the most recognisable landscapes in the Indian Ocean. Beyond the three main islands lie Silhouette, Denis, Desroches and dozens of smaller islands — each offering a different sense of seclusion, nature and closeness to the ocean.
You come for beaches, snorkelling and diving, sailing and island hopping, for nature reserves, trails through tropical forests, Creole cuisine or simply for peace and quiet. But Seychelles deserves to be experienced beyond a single beach: Mahé and Praslin, La Digue and the smaller islands, nature and ocean, discovery and days when you don’t have to do anything at all — they can all belong to the same journey.
